Food Standards Agency – Food Allergy and Intolerance Training

Introduction

This interactive training has been developed by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for those who would like to learn more about food allergies and how to handle allergens safely.

Eating safely when living with a food allergy is a challenge. The only way to manage the condition is avoidance of the food that causes a reaction.

In the UK, there are approximately:

  • 1-2% of adults and 5-8% of children who live with a food allergy
  • 1 in 100 people have coeliac disease

Personal Protective Equipment

When hazards in the work environment cannot be ‘engineered out’, or when guards, shields and other safety devices have limited effectiveness, there will often be a need to wear personal protective equipment.
